About Valen VR
WebuiltValenVRbecausethemathdidn'twork.
One counselor. Four hundred students. Federal guidelines say it should be one for every two hundred fifty. The gap has been growing for two decades. No district has hired its way out of it.
The idea
What if the intervention could be there before it was needed?
Every school has an empty room, a quiet hallway, a repurposed supply closet. Valen VR is designed to live in those spaces — a single device a student walks up to, puts on, and uses for eight minutes without any staff involvement whatsoever.
We chose VR deliberately. Not because it is novel, but because the neuroscience points there: immersive natural environments activate the parasympathetic nervous system at rates that screens, apps, and many therapist-led techniques cannot match in the same time window.
The device operates autonomously because we observed a consistent failure mode: interventions that require staff to schedule, explain, and monitor disappear from buildings within eighteen months. Valen VR's only dependency is a power outlet.

The counselor ratio is a structural problem. Structural problems need structural solutions.
A device that runs itself — while counselors focus on students who need them most — is a structural solution.
The evidence
It works. Here is what we have learned.
Sessions completed
Not one staff complaint, FERPA incident, or device removed for behavioral misuse.
Daily active users
Without reminders, marketing, or any staff encouragement. Students find it themselves.
Pieces of feedback
Collected passively. No student was asked. No incentive was offered.
