Our core commitment

Valen VR does not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information (PII) from students, library patrons, or any other users of its hardware or software. This is not a policy choice — it is an architectural one. The device has no user accounts, no login system, and no mechanism to associate a session with a person.

What data is collected

Valen collects only aggregate, non-identifiable operational data: total session count, session duration, and device health metrics (battery, firmware version, error states). None of this data can be linked to any individual.

FERPA compliance

Because Valen collects no student education records as defined under 20 U.S.C. § 1232g, FERPA's data-sharing and consent requirements do not apply to Valen deployments. No parental consent or student consent form is required for a student to use the device.

COPPA compliance

Valen does not collect personal information from children under 13 as defined under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (15 U.S.C. § 6501). No operator obligations arise from Valen's deployment in school settings.

Data storage and retention

Aggregate telemetry data is stored on Valen's secure cloud infrastructure for operational purposes only. This data is retained for 24 months, then permanently deleted. It cannot be used to reconstruct individual sessions.

Third-party services

Valen's scheduling and demonstration tools (including Calendly) are subject to those services' own privacy policies. Valen does not share any data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.
